Bumble by Tula Pink - Fat Quarter Bundle
Quilter's Secret Exposed:
Co-ordinate fabrics like a pro, every Time!
Actual fabric colours may vary compare to colours appear on
because of differeces in settings, brands and other factors outside of
Pattern placements may be different too because the pieces are cut at
random from a whole roll.
" When I first began quilting, fabric selection seemed a little overwhelming....
Somewhere along the line I was introduced to a Fat Quarter Bundle. and it was love at first sight.
Each and every square in the little pack complemented the others beautifully. Genius.
I still enjoy selecting fabric based on pattern, scale, and colour from time to time, but I mainly stick with using one fabric collection for my designs now."
- Camille Roskelly, quilter & author of "Simplify"
Let's face it: so many of us dread the thought of selecting fabrics for a quilt, whenever we start a new project......
Because choosing fabrics means stress and agony of having to make decisions on the spot..... which could be pretty permanent....!
You need to consider colours, patterns, and whether something go together.... and after all that, still wondering IF the person you're making the quilt for will like it at all...
Phew.... talk about hard work, and you haven't started sewing yet...!
Imagine NEVER having another "meh" moment when you're so close to finishing your quilt, only to discover that you're not too sure about the choice of fabrics after all....
Instead, think about how satisfied you'd feel if the end result was just like what you've seen in the magazines or quilt shows, even better....
........ and EVERYONE commented on how amazing you are at choosing fabrics and putting colours together!!!
What if choosing fabric was easier than you think?
Hey, you might as well take credit for being AWESOME at co-ordinating prints for your quilt...
..... seeing you've done the hard work of sewing anyway!
Often the hard part is to come up with know the "how".......
Recently I had a conversation with a fellow local designer, Nicole Mallalieu (from the "You Sew, Girl!" fame)... about how people are amazed that some of us seem to have "a flair" in choosing colours and fabrics.
Since we both graduated from the same fashion design institute, we can vouch for each other that such "flair" was definitely more "nurture" than "nature" (i.e. none of us are born with the ability... we simply got trained...!!).
That means YOU too can have the "designer's flair".....
...... and actually ENJOY putting colours together!
There is no doubt that it will take some time and practice to get there.....
But the first step in becoming confident in choosing colour is to have the right visual aid at the start... this is the easiest way I know.
The Secret of
quilts EVERY time....
..... is simply starting with a Fat

This collection is called "Bumble".......
Bumble is a small collection of prints designed for the baby, or more accurately, the mummy on behalf of the baby. High-octane pastels are placed on backdrops of dove gray to create an elegant contradiction of whimsy and sophistication.
Tula hopes Bumble can inspire conversations about wisdom, love and family whilst being a classically playful addition to the nursery and crib.
Historically the bee was often used as a symbol of wisdom and fertility; and the honeycombs that they build and live in were symbolic of the heart. This was the perfect place for Tula to start when she began drawing Bumble.
Tula’s inspiration for the collection came from many of her friends who were starting to have babies. She found herself thinking of all of the things that she wished for them as they began their lives and how this could be shared with them.
About the Fabric.....
Not just any old patchwork cotton - this collection is printed on a VERY special, super-soft fabric just for babies!
Tula Pink’s latest FreeSpirit fabric collection Bumble is printed on a beautifully soft 100% cotton with a premium finished known as "peached".
This Peached Poplin Fabric is a new base cloth to the FreeSpirit fabric range for exclusive, limited-edition designs. This fabric is so lush and buttery that it has to be touched to be fully appreciated - you'd feel that it is soft as a peach!
Because the only thing that should touch a little ones’ skin is something as soft as they are. So this fabric, featuring the sweet bumble bee design, is perfect for baby-related projects.

What on earth is a "Fat Quarter"?
No.... it's not a body part :-)
To define what a "Fat Quater" is, let's look at a "Skinny Quarter" first....
When you purchase fabric, it is almost always sold by length (either in metres or in yards - depending on where you purchase it from).
A quarter of a yard gives you 9 inches of fabric, across the width of the roll - so you end up with a long, skinny piece - roughly 9" x 42". Not all that useful, is it?
Now, picture this instead: you cut one whole yard off the roll, and then fold this in half lengthwise and widthwise, you will end up with a couple of creases in the form of a cross.
Cut long these two line, and you get four pieces, each measures roughly about 45cm x 55cm (18" x 22"), almost a square! Isn't this a much more user-friendly cut?!
Ok, how does a Fat Quarters Bundle compare to a Fat Eighths Bundles?
Fat Quarter Bundles are made of Fat Quarter pieces.... stacked together and tied into a nice tall bundle.
See below - how much bigger the Fat 1/4 Bundles, next to Fat 1/8 Bundles........ see the difference?
Note: Photos shown for size comparison purposes only. See other photos for actual item for sale.
These are 18" x 22" pieces of coordinating fabric that come from the same collection of fabric (also known as a "fabric line", "fabric range" or "story").
Most of the well-known fabric manufacturers - such as Lecien, Kokka, or Moda - release Fat Quarter Packs with every fabric line they produce.
It is an easy way to get variety in your projects. If you love a fabric line, it's a great way to get a decent piece of all of it (and not miss out on any)... in one easy step!
Have you fallen in LOVE with a certain range of fabrics..?
Consider buying multiple packs of Fat Quarters.....
This way you will end up with more fabrics to play with, and this opens up your options when it comes to deciding what quilt design to go with (and what size to make them in).
Why Would I Want a Fat Quarter?
Because it works out BEST value :-)
Think about it.... the alternative is to buy Designer Fat Quarters individually.
Since 1 x Designer Fat Quarter costs around $7.50 each these days...
By ordering your fat quarters from us in a precut bundle means you can save more than $25.00 - that allows you to buy MORE fabric - and you end up with the complete collection. How good is that?!
If you have a limited budget, this is the BEST way to get the widest variety of prints possible. Brilliant!
How does this Fat Quarter Bundle help me with fabric selection?
That's the BEST thing about Fat 1/4 Packs - you DON'T need to worry about selecting fabrics!
Because Fat Quarter Packs give you the ENTIRE fabric collection, the hard works of co-ordinating fabrics has been done for you...
You see, a fabric collection will typically include coordinating small / medium / and large scale prints, in several different colour ways. This gives your project the designer edge that looks like you've spend AGES on selecting just the right fabrics.
A well-known textile or fabric designer (sometimes a team) would have put in pain-staking effort to make sure that the fabric collection they produce are something that YOU will love, and hopefully inspire you to make quilts, garments and bags that EVERYONE will love!
When you purchase a Fat Quarter Pack, it's like having your OWN expert team of designers or friendly patchworkers picking out fabrics for you...!!
Hey, why not let someone else do the hard work for a change?
Once you have bought a few Fat 1/4 Bundle and made a few things from the fabric, you will find that choosing fabrics and co-ordinating colours / prints become less stressful over time....
In fact, you might even look forward to start putting together your own fabric stash when you go to fabric shops and quilt shows!
This is because as quilters, we all tend to be "visual" learners.....
By working and playing with fabric ranges that have already been put together by professionals, we learn to see what goes together, and what contrast with each other successfully. Another word, we learn by examples....
This is just like having your very own private tuition of colour and design theory, without any pressure and high cost.
Better still, you get to have heaps of fun and make tons of beautiful things for your family and friends too...!!!
(... they're gonna think that you are amazing....)
About the Designer.....
Through all the moving and mind changing that Tula Pink went through, one thing remained certain: her love for fabric and sewing.
After graduating from Otis College of Art and Design with degrees in both Graphic Design and Illustration, Tula Pink worked briefly as a senior exhibit designer for two major Los Angeles Museums, followed by a complete change of direction for the booming L.A. music industry.
After 6 years of Metal, Hip Hop, skulls and chains her ears began to bleed so she left California in search of a new home. The plan was to move as far east as she could, without renting a boat and work her way back west until she found a place. Today, Tula resides in a small Midwestern town where her closest neighbour is roughly four miles away! She has a cat that she hardly sees and a lawn that requires more attention than the cat.
Tula's passion in life is fabric design. She designed her first fabric collection in her living room, dedicating time after work and on weekends. A few years and several wonderful collections later, Tula now works with FreeSpirit Fabrics designing not just for quilting but for a whole lifestyle of DIY-ers.
....and YOU get to enjoy instant success in whatever project you've set your heart on, because the fabrics speak for themselves!
