If you're looking at this Janome Air-Threading Overlocker, chances are...

  • You're fed up with fiddling with looper threads everytime you change colour!
  • You're looking for an overlocker that's actually EASY to use, EFFORTLESS to thread.
  • You believe in investing in a better quality overlocker over lower prices - because you don't have time to muck around with threading!

Feeling nervous because you've never spent this much on an overlocker, and not sure they are worth the price tag? You're not alone...

"The Janome AirThread Overlocker is so called for a reason. It uses air to blow the thread through the loopers.

Yes, air. It blows the thread through the loopers!

The first time I threaded it, I dutifully studied the manual to guide me through the process. To be honest, for a minute there I thought this wasn't going to be all it had been cracked up to be. Let's face it, technical manuals can be a bit long-winded, and there were three pages to read on how to thread each looper.

But all I actually had to do was pull the thread swiftly through the top channels, flick three switches, and ta-da!

Suddenly, as if by magic, the thread had been sucked through the machine and popped out through the hole of the first looper.

Once I'd got the hang of it, I repeated the process on the second looper and it took ten seconds. TEN SECONDS. The needles were also easy to thread thanks to the automatic needle threader.

The whole threading process, from start to finish, including pauses to check everything was threaded properly, took about ONE minute total.

None of the hunching, squinting and tweezering involved in threading a regular overlocker. Hooray!"

I'm so sure you'll just love your new Janome AT2000D overlocker because of all the wonderful feedback and emails from people who are absolutely thrilled with theirs!

"Love my Janome AirThreader - it's so easy to thread and operate, sews quietly and does a beautiful rolled hem. I actually like it much better than the BabyLock which is well-known for rolled hems but I'm glad I got the Janome instead.

I'm impressed with the usual excellent Janome quality, I like how it feels sturdy and quite heavy so you can sew fast without too much movement or vibration.

Even though it was pricey, it's worth it for the amzing threading system, because what you get feels more like a machine you would find in a professional environment and I would recommend it."

  • 3 THREAD OVERLOCK NARROW
Commonly used for garment construction and lingerie with light to medium weight fabrics.
  • 2 THREAD OVERCAST
The needle and lower looper threads form an edge finish that is lightweight and flat. Often used as an open seam edge on lightweight fabrics.

Discover all the things you can do...

4 THREAD OVERLOCK SAFETY STITCH

The stitch is strong enough to hold seams that endures wear & tear, because it stretches without breaking. It is excellent for sewing knit & loose fitting woven garments.

The safety stitch is a rare feature in domestic overlockers - so grab this one if you need it!

3 THREAD OVERLOCK STANDARD

Popular for garment construction on medium to heavyweight fabric. Generally used as an edge finish on single layers of fabric.

This is perfect for finishing raw edges of seam alloweances, where there is less stress on the seams.

3 THREAD OVERLOCK NARROW

Commonly used for garment construction and lingerie with light to medium weight fabrics.

You'd fins this stitch useful for projects that needed a smaller seam allowance, where the regular overlocking might be too wide and heavy.

2 THREAD OVERCAST

The needle and lower looper threads form an edge finish that is lightweight and flat. Often used as an open seam edge on lightweight fabrics.

Do you pre-wash fabric? Use this stitch to secure your raw edges so that your fabric doesn't fray away in the wash.

3 THREAD ROLLED HEM

Excellent for hemming on medium to lightweight single layer fabrics, on scarves, napkins and ruffles - consider using wooly nylon thread forbetter coverage especially if your fabric frays.

I like to use it on scrunchies - in contrasting thread colour!

2 THREAD ROLLED HEM

Since there are only 2 threads, the result is lighter and finer than the 3 thread version. This is suitable for evening fabrics like chiffon, silks and also used for bridal veil edging.

Ballroom & other dance costumes really come alive with this finish.

PICOT EDGE

Hem finish with a slightly scalloped appearance, used to hem sheers and lightweight delicate fabrics. Works well on batiste, cotton voile, lawn, chiffon, georgette and fine knits.

Excellent for finishing handkerchiefs, bandanas & pocket squares!

LETTUCE LEAF EDGE

3 thread rolled hem using the differential feed. A popular decorative wavy edging on stretch fabric. Can be used for more dramatic curves if used with a nylon cord. The differential feed controls the speed of fabric which can be used to either create more wave or to ease stretch and puckers.

FLATLOCK 3 & 2 THREAD

3 thread is perfect for joining fleece and knit fabrics. Can also be used as a decorative accent with heavier threads to resemble the top cover stitch seen on sportswear. 2 thread is ideal for joining lace to silk on lingerie. The reverse side looks like a ladder stitch.

Still not sure?

Here's what one (of many) happy customers had to say after purchasing their Janome Overlocker:

"I love that it is simple to go from overlocking to doing rolled hems. It is so easy to thread. I also like that it has a thread catcher.

Overall, I am pleased with my purchase of this great little machine. It has options for 2-3-4 spools which gives you lots of different stitches and finishes. And the manual that comes with it is very easy to read and understand (it even has a DVD). I am still excited to use it after having it for a while. Overlocking is fun!"

Not All Sewing Machines Are Made Equal...

Take a peek: an X-Ray view if you will.

As a demonstration - take a look inside a Janome JR1012 (for example) with a see-through exterior.

You can easily see - inside every Janome there is REAL metal (aluminium die-cast to be exact) that can be found in even the most inexpensive, entry level Janome.

The die-cast aluminium frame in a Janome provides the strength and stability required for the precise action of the sewing machine needle and mechanism.

The exterior is just that - a shell - and not part of the structure of the machine.

Unfortunately there are other brands of sewing machine on the market in Australia right now that have no internal frame (let along metal). It means the components are merely attached to the outer plastic shell of the machine. There is simply not enough rigidity for high speed movements!

With Janome, there is always inner structrual support  which means your sewing machine performs better, and it lasts longer. Buy Well, Buy Once.

What sort of thread does this machine take?
Do I need to buy cones of thread, or can I use my normal spools?

It's up to you.

This machine takes cones or spools, so you can either use your sewing threads, or specialty threads on cones for overlockers.

See how the cone holders can be removed easily off the spool pins, which allows for smaller spools of thread to be used.

The main thing to keep in mind is whether your thread is suitable to the fabric you are using. When in doubt, do a little test on a scrap of the fabric you intend to use.

What is the difference between serging, overlock, flatlock and coverstitch?

In general, if you're from North America, you use a serger, and if you're from the UK, NZ, or Australia, then you use an overlocker. The two terms are interchangeable and both refer to the same type of machine.

"Serging" or "overlocking"  is the act of "sewing" using a serger / overlocker.

Overlocking or Overlock (stitch) refers to a 4 thread serge / overlock stitch.

Flatlock is a technique in which two pieces of fabric are serged / overlocked together and then pulled apart slightly to achieve a flat stitch which connects the two pieces of fabric.

Coverstitch is the stitch that you see on ready to wear garments at hem lines.

Does this model do "coverstitch" as well ?

No. This machine does not have a coverstitch - or coverhem, as it is sometimes called.

It is a standard overlocker that does two, three or four thread overlocking stitch, specifically for finishing edges on knits or woven fabrics.

To do coverstitch, you need to buy an expensive, high-end model, or a separate coverstitch machine.... and, coverstitch machines often don't do overlocking anyway.

Most domestic machine users are happily sewing with an overlocker along side their regular sewing machine. This will get most of your sewing needs covered.

If and when you find the needs to do lots of coverstitching, then consider investing in a separate coverstitch machine - like the Janome CoverPro. Otherwise there is no need for the extra expense.

Do I still need a separate sewing machine ?

Yes. This machine is an overlocker, and it does NOT replace a regulare sewing machine.

The main function of the overlocker is to finish the raw edges to stop the fabric unravel or fray - so that the finished garment can be worn and washed!

Sure, by overlocking two pieces of fabrics together you've essentially join the pieces and made a seam. But the overlocking does NOT replace a regular straight seam done by a sewing machine.

This is because the sewing machine stitches hold the pieces together properly, while the overlocking stitches takes care of the raw edges. Different purposes altogether :-)

Just turn whatever you're wearing inside out and have a look - you'd see a row of straight stitching next to the overlocked edges.

Sounds Good - but why wouldn't I buy directly from Janome?

Great question!

Here's something most people didn't know: Janome Australia doesn't deal directly with the public. Neither does Janome USA or Janome UK.

Actually, the authentic Janome website won't let you place orders. You can find all sorts of information there, but you won't find an "Add to Cart" button if you're looking at the real deal.

In case you come across any website with "Janome" in the name that you could buy from - chances are, you've found someone who'd like you to think that you're dealing directly with Janome Australia themselves. Which isn't the case.

Think about it for a second: when someone is prepared to hide the truth about who they really are, what else might they be hiding?

Still Deciding?

Check Out This Detailed Review of Janome AT2000D...

Products We Love: Janome AirThread 2000D Professional

For some, the word "Overlocker" alone can send them screaming into the darkest corners of their sewing rooms. "The threading' not the threading' make it stop!" Well, perhaps that's a wee bit dramatic, but the fear of threading the loopers on an overlocker is VERY real.

If you're a regular reader, you know we are an all-Janome studio, and so we are thrilled to tell you about the Airthread 2000D Professional.

One-Push Air Threading System

The most tedious aspect of threading an overlocker is feeding through the upper and lower loopers. With the AirThread 2000D that headache is eliminated. All you need to do is insert the thread into the specially designed ports and push the lever. A whoosh of air sends the thread exactly where it needs to go. So simple!

Easy Lay-in Threading

Threading the upper tension discs is just as easy (and error free) thanks to improved slide-and-go thread guides.

8-Piece Feed Dog System

The AirThread 2000D has an 8-piece Feed Dog System. All eight are strategically placed to gently grab and move your fabric under the presser foot. This allows you to serge everything from slippery knits to tough canvas with confidence.

Built-in One-step Converter

There's a built-in, one-step converter to change from 3-thread to 2-thread applications. Really'. it's just one step! Place your finger under the converter and flip it into position. Did we mention how simple this machine is to use?!

Built-in Needle Threader

While we're on the topic of built-in wonders, we were particularly excited to see the AirThread 2000D has a built-in needle threader; a Janome first! One unit provides easy threading of both the right position and the left position needles.

Intergrated Dual Function Knob

Getting your overlocking stitches just right means being able to adjust several factors. Janome added some very cool features to the AirThread 2000D to make this uncomplicated. The Stitch Length Adjustment and Differential Feed Adjustment have been integrated into one dual-function knob' so smart!

Foot Pressure Adjustment

Fine adjustments, like cutting width, as well as access to the upper knife release and the stitch finger lever for rolled hemming are now consolidated on the right side of the large sewing bed for quick access. You can also adjust foot pressure with one dial so the machine can accommodate a variety of fabric thicknesses as well as several optional presser feet.

Overall Construction

One thing we appreciate in every Janome model is the quality of the construction, which is at the heart of why their machines are consistently stronger, quieter, and more durable.

The AirThread 2000D is no exception; the upper and lower shafts have been redesigned to include ball bearings for increased durability and sound suppression, making it even quieter and smoother at high speeds.

We hear from sewing teachers all the time who hold classes where students bring their own machines. They tell us how they can always spot the Janome machines in the room because they make the least noise and have little to no vibration.

If you've been thinking about an overlocker, we invite you to take a closer look at the new AirThread 2000D to see just how much simpler using an overlocker can be.

Now, Let's Get Your Order On Its Way To You!

How long will it take to receive my order?

All fully paid orders placed by 5pm Monday to Thursday will be processed overnight and ready to send by our warehouse - normally the next day or following business day.

Orders placed on Friday and Weekends will be processed on Sunday night - because our warehouse operates Monday to Friday except Public Holidays.

Once it leaves our warehouse, the actual time frame is up to the delivery services. This can vary depending on your location and road conditions.

Any delivery time estimates shown are estimates only - so please use it as a guide line.

You'll receive a few email updates from our system as your order progresses, so please stay tuned on these!

secure paymentHow will my order be sent?

We use a dispatch system that works out the most efficient way to send your order.

This way the postage works out fair and reasonable, and your parcel reaches you quickly as well - because we know you can't wait!

That means your parcel may reach you by either Courier or Aust Post.

In general, larger items tend to be delivered by couriers, while small items tend to go by Aust Post.

How is my postage calculated?

Great question.

Depending on weight and dimension, some times we are able to do Flat Rate across Australia, so the postage is the same no matter where you are.

Other times we use the Built-in Calculated system provided by Aust Post, and your postage is calculated based on YOUR location.

Can I get it delivered to my P.O. Box?

Depends on the item (and its dimensions), because Aust Post have size restrictions and couriers are NOT allowed to deliver to a P.O. Box.

Please check with us when in doubt.

If you have nominated a P.O. box, and the item is within Aust Post size, then it will go by Aust Post. Most of the time, this is the case.

When your item is too big, or being sent directly from our supplier, then we need you to provide a physical address so we can send a courier.

Can I get my order sent to a different delivery address?

Your sure can!

When you check out, you can choose to ship your order to your billing address or a different address.

Simply choose the second option, and then fill in the shipping address of where you want you parcel sent.

Please double check we have Your Correct Address so your order can find its way to you!

What if courier services are not available in my area?

Some locations are outside of courier services....

In these cases we CAN arrange for your order to be deliverd to your local post office.

But please provide us with a street address (street number & name) - even if it is the only Post Office in town - as if it is an office address.

A phone number would help too - this will avoid delays.

What if I need my order urgently?

No worries, we will do our best. Just let us know.

Please give us as much notice as possible - especially for special occasions like birthdays!

In most cases, we CAN arrange an upgrade from Regular Post to Express Post for a little extra.

Please contact us first so we can update your invoice to show the correct amount.

Do you offer combine shipping?
I want to order more than one item...

Sure! Please "Add to Cart" for all the items you want and let the system work it out for you.

If you're unsure, let us know. A quick message is all we need.

This way we can double check the postage for you. Simple!

Can I pick up my order?

No. Sorry - unless you're picking up furniture directly from our supplier.

Because most of our items are located in a commercial warehouse - with NO public acess.

There is no shop front - because that's how we can pass on the savings to you!

Some useful things you might want to know:

    • Combined Shipping - We are happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases based on the combined weight and dimensions of your items, so add what you like to cart as you go, and check out our shop to see what else you like... you never know what you might find!

    • All items we sell are Stored in a Clean and Smoke Free Environment so You can Rest Asured they will be In Top Condition when they arrive at your place.

    • Packaging & Sending - All your items will be packed well and we do everything we can to make sure you package arrives safely. In the unlikely event something does go wrong with your package, please contact us via email. We do our best to resolve any concerns.

    • Prompt Shipping - Your package will be sent to you promptly once payment is cleared. In most cases it will be dispatched the next business day.

    • Packaging Materials - We endeavour to support "green policies" and recycle clean packaging materials whenever possible. Brand names on packaging material may not necessarily match the content.

!!! IMPORTANT !!!
The Courier Needs Your Phone Number

When you're completing check-out please make sure your best day time phone number is included - because the courier requires a phone number.

Generally they may never ring you -  and they tend to just turn up anyway. But their office needs to have your phone number on file for "just-in-case".

If you have any special delivery instructions, please let us know.

It is best to providing these details by sending us a quick message - this means your parcel will be dispatched to you faster.

Air thread to overlock
By: on 28 September 2021

My recent purchase of the Janome air thread ATD2000 was an amazing concept from order to delivery. The easy watch DVD to ensure threading on initial use was a great aspect for the visual learner. The overlocker then sewed perfectly from initial threading and the air thread model made this process a dream I would not hesitate to recommend this machine to anyone thinking of the upgrade to air thread model.
