I have recently finished a table runner with place mats for my daughter. So many mistakes but my daughter absolutely loves it, also it was made with all my love and I thoroughly enjoyed making it thanks to the Marcia Harmening pattern. This is my Christmas project that I'm working on. I'm using a liturgical satin brocade to make drapes for a monastery, and a mission church. The monastery has six stands with sloping tops, the mission church has eight. The drapes are lined, to protect the metallic threads on the underside of the brocade. Both churches will also need a drape to cover their altars, which are a metre square on the top, with a 30cm overlap all round. All being well, I'll get them all done and hand them over to the churches before Christmas.
I also plan to sew two more sets for each church, as I have similar satin brocades in red and in purple. Depending on what time of the year it is, the appropriate colour will "dress" the churches.
I have a Janome sewing machine, an L392 I bought new in 1987, and it's still doing well. But this project is particularly special, so I'm using another machine to sew them. My elderly mum has a Singer treadly, a 201K made in 1936, and in beautiful condition in both looks and mechanicals. The 201K was the finest (and most expensive) all-metal model Singer ever made, but millions were sold all over the world, because they were such well-made machines. I can vouch for that. Mum's grand old lady sews as smooth as silk 84 years later, and purrs along effortlessly with a soft clickety-clack. A complete joy to use.

Hi Shelley, This is my Christmas project that I'm working on... for my Grandaughter for Christmas. She is 21 and in her own home for her 1st Christmas, so I designed this for her. Her favourite colour is blue so I chose to do the background blocks predominantly blue, then it needed something so I doodled for a while and came up with the Santa hat, then of course it needed something else, so the stars finished it off perfectly for me. I was happy with the end product, it is a wall hanging approximately 1 metre square. Lorraine Cavanagh.

I haven’t sewn or had my machine out for probably 14-15 years. So did something very basic... just hemmed the calico. It’s a card game my family plays called Tripoli. My 13 year old daughter loves playing it at my parents house, so I made her her own.

My Partner says to me when are you going to stop!
All I have to do now is embroider names on towels for Christmas
Then in the new year I will make another Apron for a Jewellery man
Make a vail for my future daughter-in-law
Make a dress for the wedding in June.

My son and partner wanted matching Christmas outfits so I made him shorts and her a skirt. Fingers crossed they fit as it was all done from self measurements text to me!!

Here is a wall hanging that I've just completed. I finished the top 2 years ago and decided it was high time I got it finished, I'm going to hang it up this Christmas. Once again thank you for all your wonderful service this year. It's been a difficult year but there have been some good things that have happened, for one thing I got my beautiful new sewing machine, and have rekindled the sewing spark. I don't want that to ebb away as life gets (slowly) back to normal.
I'll take this opportunity to say have a wonderful Christmas, spending time with your family, and may all go well for you in the new year
